Reading list 01: Fall 2013

Fall 2013 Reading List |

I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like, so this fall I’m going to set a goal to get a few books in. I LOVE reading books about business, blogging and creativity, but I also want to get some books in there that are just strictly for fun. I love to be cuddled up in bed reading while I try to stay warm on cold nights!

Doctor Sleep: A Novel by Stephen King
I have to try this one out, as I’ve heard it’s pretty awesome. It’s a sequel to The Shining about “the now middle-aged Dan Torrance and the very special twelve-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals.”

Creative, Inc.: The Ultimate Guide to Running a Successful Freelance Business by Joy Deangdeelert Cho
Can you believe that I’m a creative freelancer and I’ve never read this book? I’ve heard so many great things about it. I’m actually reading this book right now. It has been so helpful to me so far that I’m taking extra long to read it so I can take notes and use it to get some things in order for my business.

Blog, Inc.: Blogging for Passion, Profit, and to Create Community by Joy Deangdeelert Cho
Since I’m also a blogger, I thought I’d read this one, too. Again, I’ve heard wonderful things. I’m excited to get to this one.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling
I don’t watch Mindy’s show The Mindy Project (but I want to start) and I didn’t watch The Office, either. But I’ve seen her in other things and she’s hilarious! I’m really interested in hearing more about her life and reading her stories.

Do you have any suggestions for other books to read this fall? How do you choose new books to read? I never know where to start with different books to pick up, specifically in the fiction genre. And I don’t like the idea of only reading what’s at the top of the best sellers lists.

I LOVE reading lists because I’m always looking for something new to read. You will love Mindy’s book, it is hilarious! But you must start watching her show, and you MUST watch The Office! One of my favorite shows of all time!
I think I’m definitely going to need to check out Blog, Inc. It’s one of those books I just keep forgetting about…adding it to my list today!
And if you haven’t read it already, I just read The Fault in Our Stars and it was SO good. Easy read, but so, so touching. You’ll cry, just a fair warning ;)

I read Mindy Kaling’s book and it was really funny! I also watch The Mindy Project and you should check it out! Her character is girly and self-centered, but hilarious, as are the other actors! I’ve been wanting to check out Blog, Inc. for a while. If you read it, let me know what you think! :)

    Have a great weekend!

First off, I LOVE Mindy’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns). It was one of my favorite reads over the Summer. I just loved how it felt as if she’s sitting across from you telling your her story over cocktails. I think I finished that book in a day or 2. I purchased Blog Inc. and after reading it within a day, I was slightly disappointment. Most of the stuff I read in the book I had already read through numerous blog posts scattered along the internet. It was just seemed regurgitated content. There was nothing that stood out so I ended up giving the book away. It’s great for someone that just entering the world of blogging, but if you’re a blogger & follow a lot of other blogs that talk about blogging tips — this book is nothing special.

Creative inc + blog inc are awesome books- you are really going to love them! I haven’t read Is Everyone Hanging Out without me? yet, but it has been on my list. I highly suggest any book Chelsea Handler (i’ve read + loved them all). I heard that they are really similar to the one Mindy wrote. Maybe add them to your list!
